Federal government won't expedite review of controversial power line
By Bob Joseph

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. An upstate congressman says the federal Department of Energy won't expedite action on a (b) billion dollar high-voltage electric transmission line.

New York Regional Interconnect wants to build the 12-hundred megawatt line that would run from the Utica area to Orange County. The likely route would run through several New York counties and part of northern Pennsylvania.

Utica-area Congressman Sherwood Boehlert today announced that the energy department is advising the company that its request for a faster review of the project won't be granted.

Boehlert and Congressman Maurice Hinchey of Ulster County had urged the agency not to expedite its review.

New York Regional Interconnect has held several public meetings with property owners and local officials in communities along the proposed route of the 200-mile transmission line.
