How much of an area does the UDPC represent?
UDPC has members from all over the country who are interested in helping to protect the Upper Delaware River. The area we are most concerned with is roughly from the Delaware Water Gap and north to the headwaters of the Upper Delaware River.
Does UDPC tell people how to use their land?
We don't have the right to tell you how to use the private property you own. We work with land owners to use smart planning practices as well as planning boards and local communities to strengthen ordinances to prevent unethical developers from taking advantage of our area. We believe that thriving business and protecting the environment can exist together.
Why is Ridgeline protection so important?
The economy of the Upper Delaware is based on tourism. If you take away the pristine views, you take away the economy of the region. Water quality is also affected by clear cutting the trees between the ridgeline and the river. Trees filter the water and slow down the rains flowing into the Delaware River, if you cut the trees it can create flooding and impact water quality.
Can I join UDPC?
We welcome members from all over the country. We consist of an Advisory Board, a Board of Directors and the General Membership. UDPC is always in need of active volunteers and funding to help protect the river.
How does UDPC get its funding?
Currently, we get most of our support from the local communities along the river. We will be applying for various state and federal grants and welcome anyone who would like to write a grant on our behalf or can direct us to an appropriate granting organization. |
